about us

welcome to our community

New Phoenix Pottery

New Phoenix Pottery was born from a simple but powerful need: a place for potters — both aspiring and experienced — to throw clay, build community, and call home. What began as a small collective of makers seeking studio space has grown into a thriving creative hub where people come together to explore clay, support one another, and find joy in making.

Built by Potters, for Potters

New Phoenix Pottery was created out of real need — artists searching for a place to throw, learn, and belong.

A True Community Studio

We are a community studio. Our focus is on a shared studio space for everyone.

Rooted in Our Mission

Through multiple evolutions, changes in ownership, and even a devastating fire in 2023, New Phoenix Pottery has continued to rise.

About New Phoenix Pottery

For more than 20 years, New Phoenix Pottery has been a part of the Baltimore-area arts community, a place where creativity and connection come together through clay. What began as a small collective of makers looking for a shared workspace has grown into a thriving community studio where people of all experience levels come to learn, create, and belong.

Founded over two decades ago in Cockeysville, New Phoenix Pottery quickly became known as a welcoming space for potters, from curious beginners to seasoned makers. Built by potters, for potters, the studio was shaped around the belief that clay is not just a medium, it’s a way of fostering community.

Community is at the heart of our studio: shared experiences, shared tools, shared inspiration. We offer a wide range of classes, workshops, and open studio time, from beginner wheel-throwing and handbuilding to advanced skill development, all taught by dedicated instructors who are passionate about supporting your creative journey. Whether you’re creating your very first mug or refining your technique, you’ll find encouragement, guidance, and camaraderie in every corner of our studio.

New Phoenix Pottery has evolved through many chapters. Over the years, we’ve experienced growth, changes in ownership, and challenges that tested our resilience. In 2023, a devastating fire destroyed our longtime studio in Cockeysville. Rather than ending our story, it marked a turning point. In 2024, we reopened in a beautiful new space in Sparks, Maryland, rising once again, true to the spirit of the phoenix.

Today, our Sparks studio offers classes, workshops, and open studio opportunities for all skill levels. Whether you’re here to learn, create, or simply be part of a welcoming, creative community, New Phoenix Pottery is a place to belong.

Don’t be a stranger. Join us in the studio sometime!
