Charlene Randolph
Charlene Randolph is a ceramic artist with over 30 years of experience working in clay. She holds an MA in Ceramics, and her practice spans both functional and sculptural work with a continued focus on form, tactility, and the intimate relationship between object and hand.
In addition to her studio practice, Randolph teaches pottery classes in both wheel throwing and hand building. She is also a pottery tool designer — developing texture tools that bring bold designs for clay work.
Randolph has significant experience in the ceramics community as both an arts administrator and arts entrepreneur. She is the founding and former gallery owner of The ClayGround in historic Old Ellicott City, Maryland. She served as the Program Coordinator at Lancaster Creative Factory — supporting community, access, and education in clay, from June of 2021 until July of 2024. She recently stepped down as the Studio Manager at New Phoenix Pottery and continues to teach both hand building and wheel throwing classes. Her work is rooted in material intelligence, repetition as skill, and the belief that clay objects carry the story of the maker, the process, and the body.
